Brontes Rest

A cosy Victorian fisherman's cottage
offering self catering accommodation in
the medieval Old Town area of Scarborough

Brontes Rest is a charming and characterful Victorian fisherman's cottage situated in the heart of the Old Town conservation area of Scarborough just two minutes walk from the harbour and beach. Offering self catering accommodation for up to four guests.

Nestled beneath the castle ramparts and the foot of the steps leading to St Mary's Church - the famous resting place of author Anne Bronte, Brontes Rest offers the perfect accommodation for a family holiday, quality time with friends or a romantic retro retreat.

The Cottage

Brontes Rest is a detached double fronted cottage. Access is at street level and the accommodation is set over two floors. The cottage is light, sunny and airy and has lots of character and quirky features

Ground Floor

On the ground floor there is a cosy yet spacious living area with a real open fire, perfect for cosy winter evenings in.
The room has a Freeview TV/DVD/radio and a selection of books of local interest. The kitchen/dining area is well equipped with gas cooker (double oven), microwave, toaster, washing machine, fridge (with small freezer box) and an ample farmhouse table and chairs to enjoy a nice meal around.
The shower room is located on the ground floor too and contains a shower (there is no bath), loo and sink.

First Floor

Stairs lead to the first floor where you will find two lovely spacious double bedrooms. Bedroom one has two single beds and a large Victorian wardrobe and original fireplace. Bedroom two houses a fabulous Victorian double bed with original built in cupboard for clothes storage.

The ground floor living room leads out to the open patio area where there is a small courtyard for you to enjoy an alfresco meal or glass of wine in privacy. There is also room for you to hang your washing. We share our outside space with our neighbours and we ask that all guests respect their privacy and property. Guests with pets can let their pets use the shared outside space at the back of the cottage at any time.

The accommodation is suitable for less mobile guests with a kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor. Access is at street level so ideal for buggies/pushchairs. Children are very, very welcome. The cottage is non smoking throughout (an ash tray is provided in the garden!) Small, well behaved pets are welcome on the ground floor only at an additional cost of £20 per pet for a short break and £25 per pet for a week booking. Wifi / broadband is also available for guests to use.

Although the area is virtually car free, there is parking available in close proximity. Free parking permits are only available with height of season July and August bookings, otherwise there is parking available nearby at approximately £7 per 24 hours for which we can give details at the time of booking. It is possible to unload luggage at the cottage and then park close by.

We offer good value for money in quality surroundings. The cottage is owned and managed by three generations of the same native Scarborian family.

Follow signs for Scarborough Castle.
On Castle Road after the Scarborough Arms Pub, with the Castle ahead of you, turn right down Tollergate and Friargate. Turn left into St Sepulchre Street and follow the road round to Princess Street. Half way down Princess Street there is a break in the houses and Princess Lane is on the right hand side. Brontes Rest is the only cottage on the lane - No. 2 with a pink door. Parking is very close by on Princess Square or near the castle.
